Okay, so y’all know I just relocated from Chicago to Tampa. Woohoo! But LAWDDDD! As much as I love the sun this humidity is not my friend, especially when it comes to my hair. One minute I’m rocking a super cute, nicely poised twist-out and the very next minute, I’m rocking an unruly afro. Not even a cute fro either. It’s like the humidity saw me tryna be great, and was like “F your twist-out!”. LOL! It’s all good though because after a few shopping trips, I got some new humidity proof products that are gonna beat this heat! And yes, those are fighting words… I’m coming for you, humidity!
Beat the heat with these humidity proof beauty products…
I’m not typically a hairspray kinda girl, but since I’ve moved to Tampa my hair has been out of control (and not even in a cute way). I’m all for the wild hair look, but when I’ve taken the time to strategically twist my hair and then super-strategically unravel them for that perfect wave…uhhh I want it to last. I recently purchased this Smooth + Shea Humidity Blocking Hairspray and it is bae! It helps prevent frizz and lasts all day without making my hair super hard and flaking. It’s made with shea butter and marula oil, so while it’s holding your style, it also keeps your hair looking and feeling soft.
If you’ve ever saw this product in the store and wondered why it’s called “It’s a 10”, it’s because there are literally 10 benefits for using this serum. My two favorites are – controls frizz and humidity proof. Whether I wear my hair natural curly, twists, rodded or straight, this product never disappoints. All you need is a drop (aka dime size…you know how we do) and massage it in your hair pre or post style and you’re good to gooooo! This serum is a little on the pricey side at about $15 for a 4oz container, but it’s worth every penny.
As soon as I moved to Tampa, the first thing I wanted to do was get my skin in order. I’ve always liked fresh beauty products, especially their skincare line. I really like that they use natural, from the earth ingredients in the majority of their products. This facial toner is one of them. It’s made with pure Umbrian clay, which is from Nocera Umbra in Italy. It’s been around for centuries and is one of the oldest known cosmetic ingredients out today. I was sold when I heard that. I love a good classic product. The clay along with the minerals naturally formulated in it absorbs excess oil and minimizes pores while mattifying the skin. The directions suggest you apply with a cotton round after you wash your face, but here’s how I use it – After my skincare routine, right before my foundation I apply it directly on my face by pressing it in my skin with my hands. I then let it air dry and follow-up with my foundation.
I’m not usually a fan of setting powder. Mainly because I like my makeup to look as natural as possible and sometimes powders can cause a cake-like look, especially if you over do it or simply just don’t know what you’re doing. However, this new HD Setting Powder by Motives is everything. And by everything I mean, it pretty much does ev-a-re-thang – blends, sets, absorbs and even whispers sweet nothings in your ear. First of all, it’s super light and easily blends into all skin tones, even darker complexions without causing that grey, ashy look. It’s HD effect creates a perfect airbrushed look, while reducing the appearance of oil and shine. And, what I love the most is that it’s a pressed powder, so you can easily keep it in your purse for those mid-day touch-ups. That’s if you’ll even need it because this stuff sets your makeup to last all day. Wear it with or without makeup for a flawless finish.
It’s been a long time since I’ve used drugstore foundation. After getting my hands on the likes of NARS, Tarte and Fenty I never looked back. However, I’ve been hearing so many good things about Maybelline’s Fit Me Foundation that I decided to try it out for myself. I honestly didn’t even think I would like it. I didn’t think it would match up to what I’ve been used to. I was wrong! This foundation did match up to the high end brands I’m accustomed to AND it matches my skin perfectly. A little goes a long way with this stuff, which is pretty unusual for drugstore foundation. All I need is one application and I have the medium, flawless coverage I love. It comes in 2 formulas – Matte and Dewy Smooth. With this summertime heat, I’m all about the matte, humidity proof finish.
Lastly, but absolutely not least I present to you Motives’ “No More Shine” Setting Spray. A perfect way to put it all together and finish your look. Whether you’re wearing makeup or going au natural the outcome is a matte, oil-free finish that lasts all day.
I’m sure there will be tons of other products I’ll be using this summer, but these will definitely be staples. What are some of your favorite humidity proof products that will be keeping you on point this summer? Don’t be greedy. Share in the comments below.
