Chicago weather has been very generous to us so far this season, but as the air gets cooler and the leaves turn bright shades of red, orange, and yellow I get super inspired to update my beauty essentials. Plus, around this time of year my skin and hair gets a little more drier and requires a little more maintenance. And with all the beautiful fall colors in my face I couldn’t help but to add some of those same autumn hues to my makeup kit – including these Motives Cosmetics eyeshadows.
As much as I love fall and fall beauty trends, I can’t stand the cold because my skin gets extremely dry with even the slightest hint of cool air. I literally get all itchy and irritable when my skin hasn’t been moisturized. And with colder days ahead, my skin requires even more moisture than what my usual body butter can provide. Recently my roommate brought home this Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer and told me to try it. I was a bit reluctant because I typically use a hand-made body scrub for my “in-the-shower moisturizer”, but I must admit Jergens has won me over. I love how soft my skin feels without feeling sticky or slippery and it smells really good – a barely there, light scent that doesn’t clash with any other scents I put on afterwards. Based on what I’ve seen in Walgreens, it comes in 3 scents – a monoi oil, coconut oil, and argan oil. It leaves your skin feeling moisturized and soft and you don’t even have to apply any other lotion on. It’s perfect for those late night showers or when you’re rushing to be somewhere because you can moisturize while in the shower, dry, and go straight to bed or wherever.
I always suggest switching up your skincare products as the seasons change. This season I’m adding an oil-based cleanser to my regiment along with an eye cream. The eye area is the most sensitive part of the face, so requires gentle care. Mario Badescu’s Hyaluronic Eye Cream is light and creamy and keeps the crow’s feet at bay. While I know some of you are still using good ole soap to wash your face, keep in mind that foamy and heavily fragrant soaps can strip the skin of it’s natural oils causing it to become very dry. Put. The. Soap. Down. and try one of my favorite oil cleansers – Shea Moisture’s Facial Cleansing Oil or just straight up jojoba oil.
*In addition I’m also using Lumiere de Vie Toner.
Yessss I’m still talking about this Fenty Beauty foundation! Why? Because it is the shit and thou shall love thy shit. LOL! But for real, I must say this is probably one of the best foundations that I’ve used and has matched my skin perfectly since Cargo’s Wet/Dry foundation and if you’ve been following me long enough you know how much I loved Cargo. Sigh. May it rest in peace. I damn near cried when they discontinued it. Anyway, ever since then I’ve used a different foundation every few months because it seemed I could never find one that I truly felt comfortable enough to stick with. That is till now…. Wait, let me not speak too soon and just say so far this foundation has been the long lost twin my complexion has been looking for.
As my hair continues to get longer and longer, my 1-step hair moisturizing process is just not enough anymore. Add that to the dry and cold air we’re about to get hit with I thought it might be time for me to add another step. So, as I was browsing through the hair care aisle in Walgreens, trying to figure out which one of the 20+ Shea Moisture products I should get. I came across another brand that initially sold me on the brightly colored packaging, but then sold me even more with Aloe being the #1 ingredient. Still in doubt as I walked to the register with Shea Moisture in one hand and Maui Moisture Hair Mask in the other, I was reassured when the cashier praised the Maui Moisture and suggested it was better than the Shea Moisture hair mask I had picked out. Okay, I’m not sure why I just went on that rant on why I purchased this product, but I say all that to say, this Maui hair mask is what’s up. I use it once a week as a deep conditioning treatment and also as a hair moisturizer. My hair has never been as soft and manageable as it is now on a day to day basis without having to constantly reapply product. And did I mention how good it smells!
*In addition to the Maui Moisture Hair Mask I’m also using Shea Moisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo & Conditioner, and Mielle Organics White Peony Leave-in Condition.
